This is the last picture I took up on Glacier 13 on the Alaska Cruiser Trek. I set the tripod up about two feet up off the ice to accentuate the rolling hump of ice next to the snow-covered crevasse. We couldn’t go any further because the crevasses stopped our progress. You can see some snow-filled crevasses in the foreground. No idea how deep they might be. Some were filled with water and are very dangerous. If you fell [...] Well, I’m currently in Deadhorse / Prudhoe Bay, Alaska doing fieldwork, which is why my blog hasn’t been updated until now. It has been a great field season. I saw a lot of wildlife: 3 wolves, including a pup, 3 herds of musk ox, about 15 grizzly bears including a few cubs, some absolutely giant [...] This is a picture of Glacier 13 from the Alaska Cruiser Trek looking upstream from where we parked on the glacier. Although HDR does make dirty whites, the ice is actually that dirty. Which is one of the reasons why we could walk and drive on it without studs or crampons. He caught three arctic char out of this stream below the beaver dam. He was very proud of those fish.
